Meditation does not work for me. I keep doing it for longer and longer sessions (10 minutes is my max here - I am not yet guru/yogi level) and I try doing different things (focussing on my breath, having no thoughts, letting thoughts pass through me) and I very little out of it.

One alternative would be "meditative reading": Pick a poem or an inspiring text, e.g. psalms or Biblical proverbs, and then read them daily. This is a decent compromise between concentration & keeping your mind busy. After a few weeks, the content will take on a life of its own.
