I agree with you, though I would add that Amazon didn't always play fair vs. brick and mortar retail. For example, they basically tricked governments into making shopping on Amazon tax-free, while retailers had to pay sales tax.

Another caveat, think about how much IP infringing and unsafe product is sold on Amazon vs. Walmart. That's another game they play.
