Why? Seems correct in most cases to me. Amazon weakened them and then the coronavirus was the finishing blow.

Amazon is not making people shop online. People shop online because they want to, and Amazon is there. Also retail is overretailed, in debt, etc.

I agree with you, though I would add that Amazon didn't always play fair vs. brick and mortar retail. For example, they basically tricked governments into making shopping on Amazon tax-free, while retailers had to pay sales tax.
