The 1918, 1957 & 68 flu pandemics were drivers of a suburbanization trend Where dense cities fell out of favor until the 1990s. In a world without internet and good cell phones. Hard not to be long suburbs now.
If suburbanization occurred in those periods it was correlated with the flu much more than it was caused by it. SARS happened in 02-03. Asian countries and Toronto which has a big outbreak all continued to urbanize.

For sure. I think your post highlights I could have chosen words better in my original tweet. More of a comment on the mindset that drove the suburbanization / deurbanization trends in the US in the mid 20th century.

I think as soon as we hit herd immunity or a vaccine we’re gonna go right back to urbanization.
