Does anyone routinely text/e-mail with successful businessmen in their 50s and 60s? Are they terse with their communication because they can't type/text fast or is it because concision is the key to good communication?

I share this observation. Besides typing ability (many never 'taught' and use the two index finger method), I think the mediums they used to communicate in their heyday had more friction (handwritten letters, typewriters, etc.), which encouraged being economical / precise.

Yeah I know dudes who are worth mountains of money who two finger type. My dad, who would be a lot older, stuck with two-finger type writer until I turned about 10, and then he would dictate letters for me to type.

It’s amazing how (relatively) fast and accurate someone can get with that method. I tried teaching my dad, but he saw it as learning how to master the piano, an impossible task

I tried to message it as mostly muscle memory, something that’s more habit than innate. For me though, it was all about dat Mavis Beacon training lol

The real MVP. How much influence did she have over this generation of hacker bros? Also, I have no memory of her being black.

I didn't use Mavis Beacon but my brother did and he may have gotten his comp sci degree because of her. She's always been black, but over the years (first edition was in the 80s), they've used different models.pic.twitter.com/X72dWmdWR9

The holy trinity of 80s kids early computing experience: Mavis Beacon, Oregon Trail (BANG), and Where in the World is Carmen San Diego. Honorary mention: Math Blaster.

Late 90s school computer lab holy trinity: NES emulated Tecmo Football, Diablo I, and classic top-down GTA. (The latter two being the demo version, of course.)
