Does anyone routinely text/e-mail with successful businessmen in their 50s and 60s? Are they terse with their communication because they can't type/text fast or is it because concision is the key to good communication?

I share this observation. Besides typing ability (many never 'taught' and use the two index finger method), I think the mediums they used to communicate in their heyday had more friction (handwritten letters, typewriters, etc.), which encouraged being economical / precise.
Yeah I know dudes who are worth mountains of money who two finger type. My dad, who would be a lot older, stuck with two-finger type writer until I turned about 10, and then he would dictate letters for me to type.

It’s amazing how (relatively) fast and accurate someone can get with that method. I tried teaching my dad, but he saw it as learning how to master the piano, an impossible task

It could be certain brain types can't do it. I can visualize words very easily so it comes easily to me. Of course, helps to have learend it young.
