If anything, it will probably get extended. There are people who really need it, and the states aren't competent enough to distinguish. Just like they can't track and isolate confirmed/suspected covid cases.

Would be much much much better if they lowered the amount and gave it to everybody regardless of whether or not they have a job. Agree with you that our government is embarrassingly incompetent.

There's one counterargument though. By incentivising people to not work you are also incentivising social distancing. Not saying that makes it good policy on balance, but i feel everyone commenting on it is missing this point.

Long live the e-conomy. Are you having trouble getting help? The one positive is if you were laid off, in most states the company can notify if the job was offered back and it cuts off unemployment. But also, you can say im afraid of COVID and keep getting benefits

As I understand it, if an employee refuses to return to work once the employer is back up and running, their unemployment benefits can be terminated. Not sure amu employer would want to play that card, nevertheless...
