I’m very behind on covid these days, but in mid-February I was really on top of all the news and studies. At that time, I was trying to decide if we should cancel a trade show in NYC and then after I did cancel I kept up with it hoping to be proved right. Incentives matter.

Compared to earlier, I barely read anything about it these days. If you work in the FDA or the CDC, what’s your incentive? Probably not to get fired? You get fired for being contrarian and wrong. You may even be fired for being contrarian and right.

You can get fired for being contrarian and right in any profession though.

Good point. Particularly likely in government though right?

Like when it comes to selling something to the market. Must be contrarian to not get fired.

For startups who are fighting for survival, yes. But once there is hierarchy, it may not be the case anymore. I forgot who said it, but once you have managers report to managers, you are starting to have problems.

I think what you said applies to startups too. What I meant is that if you’re selling something into the market you need to be differentiated otherwise you will die and make to no money.

You can be contrarian in poltical opinion and suffer because people perceive only the prescribed paths or choices only.
