I’m very behind on covid these days, but in mid-February I was really on top of all the news and studies. At that time, I was trying to decide if we should cancel a trade show in NYC and then after I did cancel I kept up with it hoping to be proved right. Incentives matter.
Compared to earlier, I barely read anything about it these days. If you work in the FDA or the CDC, what’s your incentive? Probably not to get fired? You get fired for being contrarian and wrong. You may even be fired for being contrarian and right.
Whether it’s mask, border closing, or testing. So long as you run with the herd, even if it’s towards a cliff you keep your job. Takes a very special person to step up and say “no I’m not going along with this nonsense” when you have a mortgage, family, and reputation to upkeep.
Same here. Was reading a ton starting in January when our China and Peru trips were still a possibility. Once we cancelled Peru, I kept up on it a bit more since it was in Seattle and coming to Boise. I kind of avoid it now. I think partially just exhaustion from it
