Is there a medical or even evolutionary downside to engaging in extended hygiene practices to avoid viruses? In the long run, could we be making ourselves immunologically fragile?

My theory is that we’re optimized to get these viruses when we’re young which is why kids lick everything. And we’re supposed to avoid them when we’re old, which is why we get crazy long nose hair which acts as a mask.
