Multinational contractors are able to set up shop and hire in big numbers but their is no Latin American equivalent to finding a a single person in Manila to work for you from home. There’s a huge amount of untapped talent there that is so far inaccessible. Time zones matter!

Interesting. I wonder if that’s some sort of cultural thing in LATAM?

I don’t know enough about the culture to say. I’m sure at one time working from home for a foreign company was frowned upon in the Philippines too.

Latam is much more hierarchical than other cultures, I find. I was wondering if that has something to do with it.

Puedo hablar un poco d'espagnol porque frances es muy similar pero no connosco la cultura latina. I don't know, but Filipino culture is definitely hierarchical compared to the USA. We are very flat here. Asia is all about the big boss. Not so en Estados Unidos!

What do you guys mean by hierarchical? As for the culture, there's a lot of people that are very loyal to their bosses in latin america and just want to get a stady and safe paycheck. IMO, there's not a ton of startup/dream-chasing activity down here.

I don't know Latino or Mexican culture at all so bear with me. By hierarchical, I mean lots attention paid to authority. In the United States, managers seek consensus and want buy-in from their employees. In Asia, you do what the boss says and that's that.

There's a ton of small businesses in Mexico which make up for a big big part of the economy down here. However, I still believe there's some similarities with Asia. Best to build this service while giving people some sort of WFH liberty or sense of ownership.pic.twitter.com/bnonvEzzCx

Pic Translation: 4.1M SMBs make up for 42% of Mexico's GDP and 78% of the jobs. But only 23% of them have access to commercial banking services.

I would think that a ton of these are retail or small scale service businesses. Mexicans are famous for not trusting banking in the USA. They always carry cash.

In the Philippines one of the big motivators for wfh is traffic. Don’t know if there’s anything going on like that with Mexico. I don’t know the country and don’t take offense to this but could drug violence be a driver for work at home in some cities?

Traffic is becoming a bigger issue. Labor laws are somewhat ambiguous in regards to WFH so that's a huge con for it since most companies try to get away with considering WFH as gig workers and not employees.
