California did everything right, shutting down the state before it needed to. Deaths per 100,000: 5. Florida and Texas did everything wrong, acting too late, leaving beaches open. Deaths per 100,000: Florida: 6, Texas: 3.

Severe lockdowns obviously help. That's inarguable. The question is how much more severe lockdowns help over what Sweden is alleged to be doing. What I'm saying is that it's really hard to tell.

They obviously do. If you have a properly enforced severe lockdown then the virus cannot spread. What's it going to do? Spread via the internet?

It also depends on public attitude & behaviour.. places like south Korea had no formal lock down but ppl followed strong recommendations & effectively social distancing.

The fact that Sweden is surrounded by other countries with very similar social and economic conditions but different lockdown rules makes for a reasonable natural experiment.
