California did everything right, shutting down the state before it needed to. Deaths per 100,000: 5. Florida and Texas did everything wrong, acting too late, leaving beaches open. Deaths per 100,000: Florida: 6, Texas: 3.

They obviously do. If you have a properly enforced severe lockdown then the virus cannot spread. What's it going to do? Spread via the internet?

It also depends on public attitude & behaviour.. places like south Korea had no formal lock down but ppl followed strong recommendations & effectively social distancing.

The fact that Sweden is surrounded by other countries with very similar social and economic conditions but different lockdown rules makes for a reasonable natural experiment.
