What country would the United States most look like if we did not have the world's reserve currency? If I had to pick one, I would say Russia. Strong military, national pride, lots of oil, huge social problems.

You could argue Brazil and Australia as well. The natural pick is of course Canada, but I think that if the US lots reserve currency status, Canada would also go way down the tubes. France, UK, and Germany are interesting ideas too.

Would destroy ability for federal government to borrow, so the states would have a lot more power relatively. More like Europe, IMHO.

If we didn't shake ourselves to pieces entirely like the USSR in the 90s, this outcome wouldn't surprise me. Could have some larger entities in a weak federation like these interstate pacts that have been getting so much buzz lately.
