I think as a business their brick and mortar operation was doomed either way. They could’ve continued as an e-commerce business delivery operation however.

A b and m retailer without debt can go for a long time. It can just keep closing stores that are not profitable. That doesn’t mean it’s a long term sustainable business. So I’d say that most b and m retailers are screwed by PE debt provides a huge accelerant. See toysrus as ex.
