Amazon wanted its brands to make up more than 10% of retail sales by 2022. Two things: 1. This will never happen 2. By trying to make it happen, Amazon has opened an obvious anticompetitive hole Amazon will regret trying to build own brands.https://www.wsj.com/articles/amazon-scooped-up-data-from-its-own-sellers-to-launch-competing-products-11587650015 …

I independently reached the exact same conclusion. Private label outside of grocery is a very foolish move by Amazon.

As a consumer, I'll be sad if Amazon curtails its private label ambitions. I've found Amazon stuff to be excellent value, similar to Costco's Kirkland private label.

I don't actually agree exactly with what Joe wrote. I think it's dumb for Amazon to do this, but I don't believe it's anticompetitive. I think that other people think it is, so it will get them in trouble.https://twitter.com/Molson_Hart/status/1253344466452336640 …

Molson Hart @Molson_HartReplying to @EricRichards22I also agree with you. Who cares if Amazon looks at the data of their sellers to offer more products for cheaper. That said, I think it's a fool's errand. Amazon is good but will struggle to compete vs. 1000 of little niche companies. That's why they'll regret it.2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

The courts will device if it’s anticompetitive, I don’t know if it is. But it makes them look anticompetitive and perception is reality. Heck, this WSJ article doesn’t reveal much we don’t already know. It pushes the “look at amazon being bad” further tho.

In the court of law, no. In the court of public opinion, yes.

And in Congress. It adds up there too.
