Using the domestic versions of Taobao or Alibaba from the USA is enormously difficult without a VPN. Same goes for pretty much any Chinese government website.

Everyone knows about the Great Firewall which prevents people in China from freely accessing many websites based in the USA. What people don't know is that traffic from the US to Chinese websites is also throttled.

Not only just throttled, not many but certain sites won’t work at all.
