It depends on how you define racist but for sure people in China and most of East Asia think black people are dirty and stupid. That’s not arguable to anyone who knows the region. I mean, they think white people are dumb, uncultured, and Easy marks. That said, what happened at

your hotel almost certainly was not racism.

I’m not excusing this behavior from Chinese (or anyone) but it’s a lot easier to be “racist” in a homogenous country and if you travel abroad you will notice that America is one of the least “racist” countries in the world.

I don’t disagree at all, just responding to the suggestion from the OP that this supposed anti-Chinese people sentiment in the US is not reciprocated overseas.

I feel you, but at the same time I wouldn’t be surprised if there was big community transmission amongst chinas black population and China, without compunction for fear of being accused of being racist, just decided to quarantine blacks. It’s not racist sentiment here necessarily

I’m not sure, but that is possible in this scenario. I’m just eye rolling at the tendency of cultural self-loathing by some when China, by and large, is much more racist against virtually any non-Han group. Yeah, we have bad apples, but that’s not larger American society.
