I think any employee who does that will regret it in a few months. It’s really myopic to take unemployment over a job, not only economically but for one’s own sense of purpose.

Many adults now have only known a world in which the employees had massive leverage over employers. It’ll take time to internalize that the balance is shifting (sadly).

For US white collar I completely agree. And a lot of those white collar workers’ jobs will never come back, lost to automation and work from home, but in India, the Philippines, and Latin America. What happened to US blue collar will happen to the rest.

It was eye-opening for me to go to Medellin and Guadalajara and see row after row of people doing work for US companies. I visited one shop that had 300 people handling all the back offices for small fuel trucking companies spread across the US. Finance, billing, website, etc

If you’re looking for startup ideas. There is hugeeeeeee demand for remote labor in Latin America from millennial run (tech-oriented) SMBs and there is no way to access the talent that doesn’t suck. http://Onlinejobs.ph  seems to have done well doing this for the Philippines.

Multinational contractors are able to set up shop and hire in big numbers but their is no Latin American equivalent to finding a a single person in Manila to work for you from home. There’s a huge amount of untapped talent there that is so far inaccessible. Time zones matter!

This feels like something that works very well for SA.
