Why does it seem like we can improve our bench press, minutes-per-mile, or alcohol tolerance much more than we can increase our IQ? Can a person with a 100 IQ get a 120 score after training? 130? Seems quite believable to me.

I improved my SATs by 380 points from 7th grade to 12th, i think like 150 from 11th to 12th. Probably easier to study than IQ though

I don't think this is the best counterexample because your brain underwent a huge amount of change over that period, but I think you're directionally right here.

There's definitely an argument against IQ as being a good measure of intelligence.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend the Taleb piece on it. It was a gamechanger for me.

I’ve read several of his books but just can’t stand his attitude and approach. He’s guilty of many of the same things he poo-poos in other people imho. Like a “me” problem though.

He's obnoxious (I've been blocked, then muted by him - not saying I'm not obnoxious haha), but I think his wisdom is just so good that I ignore it and just focus on the good he provides.

Sounds like a good philosophy in dealing with everyone in life, too!

Wow, yeah good point. Most people though aren't as annoying as he is though haha. We all have our flaws and foibles!

I retain the right to let myself be annoyed by him. Again, a “me” problem.

For sure. I'd say though, don't sleep on his wisdom because it's life-changing.
