Why does it seem like we can improve our bench press, minutes-per-mile, or alcohol tolerance much more than we can increase our IQ? Can a person with a 100 IQ get a 120 score after training? 130? Seems quite believable to me.
I don't think this is the best counterexample because your brain underwent a huge amount of change over that period, but I think you're directionally right here.

There's definitely an argument against IQ as being a good measure of intelligence.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend the Taleb piece on it. It was a gamechanger for me.
