Why are song lyrics so often about love (or heartbreak)? My immediate thought: It's one of the most basic human needs But if that's the answer, why don't we have more songs about food?

Songs are what the listener wants to here about. Not what the singer wants to sing about.

Could be a sensory thing (visual vs audial). We have loads of classical paintings as well as insta feeds full of food.
