Just watched Tiger King on Netflix. It is intense but I recommend it. Everything that happened can be explained very simply: 1. There is huge demand for tiger cubs. You can play with them and put them on Instagram. 2. Tiger Cubs don’t stay cute and small for long.
3. There is demand for grown tigers but relatively less. 4. Grown tigers are very expensive to maintain. 5. In order to maintain the supply of tiger cubs you need to be constantly making more tigers which grow into very expensive low demand grown tigers.

6. So everyone has to kill the tigers once they’re grown. It’s analogous to a factory which produces industrial waste. Getting rid of it properly is costly or impossible. Putting it in the river is more or less free.

So either society needs to accept that tigers are killed once they’re grown or there must be a law against producing tiger cubs. That’s the sad truth which explains why all these tiger people are crazy.

Obviously some tiger cubs must be bred to keep the species alive in captivity but industrial tiger cub breeding is a whole different matter.
