Florida is the next NY-level hotspot for Covid. With the elderly population there, going to be ugly. Ugh.https://twitter.com/adamplayford/status/1244048209896448000 …
State A is 40% 80 yo and 60% 30 yo has an average age of 50. State B is 100% age 55 has an older average. If mortality rate is 10% for 80 yo, 2% for 55 yo, 0.1% for 30 yo, State A loses 4.6% of its population while state B loses 2% despite having a higher average age.

It’s not the average age that matters, clearly. It’s how many old people the state has. Florida has many and they’re packed in apartments and old folks Holmes instead of surburban houses like Florida’s young population. Florida is going to get wrecked.

I live in Florida. I'm almost 60. Do I look like I live in an old folks home? Florida will be fine.
