A friend recently told me that I am gaining followers because I'm controversial. I disagree. Controversy on balance is not good for reach. People are reticent to follow those outside the Overton Window. It is fear of guilt by association.

I think your friend might be right if your follower count < 10k or maybe even 100k but you're right above that threshold.

It's a bit like how startups must be a bit crazy but mega corps absolutely cannot.

In order to sell, first you must get their attention!

Gotta spend money to make money haha. How do you measure it? My follower count fluctuates randomly. I'm pretty sure there are people switching back and forth - or rather change some configs which make it seem like.

True. Twitter's counting seems wonky. My brain's machine learning algo says that selfish tweets cause you to lose followers and this is a classic example of that.

You could be right about that tho.
