There is actually a saying, "Don't invest north of Shanhai Pass" (投资不过山海关).
What does that saying say about Dalian? It’s south of Shanhaiguan but in dongbei.

Good point. Dalian people actually were originally from Shandong. Dalian dialect is also closer to Shandong dialect. However, it's culture is much closer to the rest of Dongbei now.

Yeah but that’s true about most of dongbei. Huge amounts of people originally from Shandong. Not just Liaoning but Heilongjiang has them too.
