Can someone explain to me the idiosyncratic concepts that are specific to Latino culture? China has "guanxi" or "relationships/connections" and "face" and they're pretty important. While we're here, I'd be interested to learn these for really any culture.

Filipinos have smiling. If you approach a person or group you must smile to show good intentions. If you don't it is assumed you're a prick and they go into defense. I've tried smiling in China and they think you're insane. Here in the US we just think you're slow.

Yeah, it's crazy. Everyone in Davao thought I was mad. It was finally explained to me by someone familiar with westerners, so I started smiling. Whole different country after that!

Manila is like a dirtier, older Miami. Davao is newer but the surroundings are like something from a Vietnam War movie.

Yeah Didn’t spend much time there but I wasn’t a big fan. What brought you to Davao?
