On the JRE podcast, Michael Osterholm said that a vaccine within a year was wishful thinking. It takes a long time to ensure that the vaccine: 1. doesn't harm 2. doesn't cause contagiousness 3. works It's easy to make a potential vaccine, hard to make one that works.

When there's a known unknown, we'll be in much better shape. Unknown unknown is the scary place we are now, sadly.
