“Hire 5 and pay them like 8 if they can work as if they’re 10.” Paraphrasing the Nucor method from Good to Great. I tried this back in my 20’s and it’s very effective- it weeds out a lot of people you wouldn’t want. No place to hide when everyone is super busy.

It's a constant factor in the "Our Incredible Journey" stories. Big VC investment -> Bloated headcount, money wasted on bullshit. There's a lot of niches to run businesses profitably in, if they were run lean.
