Not sure about the placement, but I think they’re called Big Ass Fans... or that’s the name of the company that makes them.
This company is senco but I know big ass fans. The guy who founded it built a huge company without VC money and recently sold it.

Fans are placed by the cash registers where the most people congregate, get impatient, etc. If they get uncomfortable while they're there, too, then that's just a bad customer experience all around. There are other Costco stores that have our fans.
