      Votes from the US Senate to impeach the President. Does an impeachment conviction require the "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard of proof like a criminal trial? I don't know, but, regardless, it is embarrassing that almost every Senator voted along party lines.pic.twitter.com/8zlFRYSMIT

      Since the punishment is clearly specified to not exceed removal from office, it seems like the standard is lower than "beyond a reasonable doubt".

      Agreed. I think the de facto answer right now is that impeachment is 100% political. My ideal answer is probably crimes as bad as bribery and treason with a preponderance if evidence standard

      Originally, Senators were supposed to be appointed by the state legislature, and be kind of sheltered from politics and be this deliberative body of elder statesmen. With the 17th amendment, it really changes things, and this is the culmination of that spiral towards partisanship
