The general populace here is desensitized to the succession of "world-ending" calamities we've been hyped. Killer bees, SARS, Global cooling (70s), global warming (yes it's real), Ebola, AIDS/HIV (terrible but not extinction event) and so on. I'm missing lots of examples...
Agree completely with this reasoning. We are desensitized. - SARS didn't transmit before symptoms manifested, unlike this virus. China was less well connected with the world then. - Ebola is fluid contact only - Avian bird flu is bird to human only - HIV is fluid only
