I thought that the internet, with social networks like Twitter, might be the next heir to the place where one can find the world's most innovative people. I'm starting to change my mind. You need trust to share important insights and nothing beats face-to-face for that.

Secondly, our "say the wrong thing and you're fired" cultural paradigm has stifled the free expression of innovative ideas. So, if it's not the internet, which cities are candidates for the next big innovative hotbed?

No idea. But if EU keeps declining Middle East keeps being a mess i'd search for somewhere on the line from NY to China over the Pacific.

Your thoughts on Singapore? I've never been.

Maybe, lots of advantages but lacking independent thinking / certain types of risk taking.

Btw need to verify this but anecdotally there's quite a brain drain from SGP/HK to Australia.
