Income taxes discourage work, & fertility should be encouraged if civilization is to persist. Apparently # of kids often set by short stressful periods when parents just can't handle more. I'm thinking about loud here, but doesn't this all suggest subsidizing child care?

Taxes had exactly zero impact on how many kids _we_ had. Cost of raising kids had zero impact, actually (and we assumed private school would be a thing). We know a lot of people in similarly comfortable circumstances, and almost all have few (usually 2) kids.

So what was the limiting factor? Wife’s age?

Right. Look at how well the Trump kids turned out.

The biggest taxpayers are corporations. and the top 20% is only 20% of population. the idea is not to shrink population. Redistributive tax might be enough to encourage fertility rates tho
