Another overlay is the user- like me, for example- primarily utilizing Twitter as a means of listening to others. Not seeking to gain followers. Twitter actively seeks to curate my timeline to promote/suppress narratives rather than letting my follows dictate content.

I do reply to you and others from time to time, usually to contribute towards greater understanding or to gain clarity of what others have said. I also follow people that I (assume I) do not agree with in order to better understand them.
