for the first category while worsening it for the second. IMHO, the reason why more people don’t use twitter is not the toxicity. Saying Twitter is toxic is like a complimentary criticism. What you’re saying is that you’re important enough to be on the receiving end of the

toxicity. The reality is that most twitter users are ignored and they don’t like it. Maybe I’m a poorly adjusted person but every time I reply to a tweet and I don’t get a response, I feel bad. Every single time. Correct me if wrong, but I think most people feel that way?

I think that’s the number one reason why people leave Twitter. They tweet some stuff and no one replies and they leave. Why do people post on Instagram? For the dopamine you get from likes. Twitter works same way but can be more constructive. At this time, I think the best

solution would for Twitter to explain to new users how you get followers (providing valuable information #1 imho), get muted (saying dumb shit), or blocked (touch a nerve) via some sort of animated video with examples. At least then, there’d be a path to victory for the ignored!

P.S. It might even make sense for twitter to show new users what it’s like to be Kim Kardashian and to get 1 million replies, or hateful messages. It’s hard to wade through that to reward those with thoughtful responses.

Another overlay is the user- like me, for example- primarily utilizing Twitter as a means of listening to others. Not seeking to gain followers. Twitter actively seeks to curate my timeline to promote/suppress narratives rather than letting my follows dictate content.

True, but you reply to me from time to time no? You don’t to others? Why not?

Twitter is more about people meeting of the minds and less about self promotion. I see twitter as a way to help, learn, meet, and get a paulse on a subject. I’ve met a lot of my followers in person. Small growth but my twitter people are much more relevant than instagram.

Depends on the person. Some are here to listen, others are here to speak, many are here to sell.
