Japan and China by Ezra Vogel would shed some light on what might be a misunderstood history... the idea that the Dutch and Spanish somehow made it it to Taiwan first is ridiculous

The Spanish (Jesuits) and Dutch received different levels of acceptance and I wouldn’t define them as colonizers but rather guests
