I have an irrational aversion to it which prevents me from considering it rationally. Founder of Tom's shoes, if you want to give shoes to people who can't get them (bullshit), just do it. You don't need to tell everyone you are.

My personal ethos is much more akin to this. I’d rather focus a business on profit and donate to causes I care about from my dividends, but I do think there are industries where it makes sense (e.g., medicine, education)
