For people who became rich in the US in the 1950s and 1960, how did they do it? I've been desultorily trying to find data (not anecdotes!) on this for a while but have come up dry, would love pointers if anyone has them

Interesting, but I was hoping for numbers...it's not clear to me that even if these things were good businesses, that any individuals made much money. Ie. plastics were great for GE
I’m quite certain they all did. Plastics were disruptive and not yet commoditized and for a long time were local (providing a barrier to entry). It’s like, in every city, there’s a self made millionaire gas station owner. I don’t see you finding numbers so easily.

Sorry, I don't. I only this stuff because I buy injection molded plastic and have visited many molders in China and the USA. Moldmakers also would've made a good amount of money. If you do find something, tweet it out! I'd take a look for sure.
