For people who became rich in the US in the 1950s and 1960, how did they do it? I've been desultorily trying to find data (not anecdotes!) on this for a while but have come up dry, would love pointers if anyone has them
I don’t know but I’ll take some educated guesses Ways to get rich in that era? 1. Importing from Japan 2. Building houses 3. Injection molding plants for plastics (60s more than 50s) 4. Chains (brick and mortar retail or restaurant) Interesting question.

Interesting, but I was hoping for numbers...it's not clear to me that even if these things were good businesses, that any individuals made much money. Ie. plastics were great for GE

I’m quite certain they all did. Plastics were disruptive and not yet commoditized and for a long time were local (providing a barrier to entry). It’s like, in every city, there’s a self made millionaire gas station owner. I don’t see you finding numbers so easily.
