I'm guessing this applies to cloud computing as well. But i dont know how can one avoid it.
If I built a startup on AWS and then Amazon decided to crush me, how difficult would it be for me to switch our operations over to Microsoft Azure or Google’a offering? Prima facile, using AWS looks many times safer than the position most e-commerce companies are in.

Depends how big you are at that point and can you afford any business disruptions. E.g. my company is a 3 yo startup using AWS and if i had to guess it'd take at least several months to pull it off. I agree it's probably much safer than e commerce or even app stores.

Of course if its only a fringe website kicked out for political opinions you can move it in a few days.
