If it wasn't SA, it'd be another mid-tier city on the upswing like KC, Columbus, Nashville, Calgary, etc.

Constraints in those places present really interesting problems also, I think.

I feel you on this. I like to zig when everyone else is zagging, but man...I couldn't do Dallas (I moved from NYC). It would've been fine if I had accepted a boring life in Plano or something, but it just felt like there was a better option.

With the internet, in theory, it shouldn't be necessary to be in SF (depending on what you're trying to do), but I don't really know or not. I met some "angels" in DFW and man, I was verrrrrry not impressed. Disclaimer: I don't fully "get" SF

I think it's about either-- 1- finding opportunity->city fit or 2- finding city->opportunity fit I've learned the hard way: don't try to do what works in SF/LA/etc in another city. Do what takes advantage of the place I'm in.

So much more fun when the city is the best place in the world to do something versus fighting against a city's gaps.

What’s that in San Antonio? Software for maquiladoras (half kidding?)? Software businesses that service sa’s big govt footprint? San Antonio has cheap wages and real estate, but, China and the Philippines are cheaper. No disrespect the city. I just don’t know it and am interested

Lots of stuff. Many that take advantage of the cyber talent here, the fact people don’t leave jobs quickly, 60%+ Hispanic and often Spanish speaking, proximity to Mexico, military bases, 2nd largest medical complex in Texas behind houston and so on.

For software, check out Scaleworks,
@dura_software or@Mail_Gun as examples. None playing the vc game coastal style. And it’s a great place to live...1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -

What drove the cyber security talent? Government at the beginning? I HD no idea about that. What drives the employee loyalty? Latino culture or big take home pay caused by no state income tax and low cost of living?
