Their scale in technology (i.e. AWS) means they can host millions of products better than their competitors. Their scale in logistics powers a vertical integration (FBA), which attracts sellers to the platform. Together, they create a self-reinforcing network effect.

Since writing the article, for us at least, Walmart's growth has exploded and I see them as the only viable competitor (needing support from other companies) to Amazon.
