I agree with you generally. The Ron Apple guy who was hired by JCp comes to mind. That said are there any good counter examples? Buffett?

Why is he a counter example? by design , BRK makes investment/large capex decisions at HQ while Ops are decentralized and not micromanaged. I dont' expect a CEO to be on tour ..
