It’s unsolvable, but it was contained and he has opened the gates

Para abrazos no balazos? I forget his name, Obrador (the guy who was president in 2006), declared war and that ALSO increased the violence.

Yes, Calderon tried to solve it and found out it was unsolvable. It can only be contained … and solved slowly over time

So what you’re saying is that the optimal way to handle it is to neither attempt to destroy it nor allow it to grow uninhibited?

I sometimes fantasize about opening a plant in Mexico and with the likely passing of the MCA that seems reasonable, but man, the violence! I’ve been shaken down before in a foreign country but this is a whole another level.

Depends on where you’re located. Cartels are territorial.

Right, but your article was about San Miguel Allende, “the safest city in Mexico” and unless I’m in totally out of the way Yucatán there is no avoiding some level of problems. Based on what I’ve seen Monterrey and Mexico City are not without problems.

Those two cities have problems but more like the usual problems for all cities in emerging markets

If you were locating a plastic injection molding facility in Mexico where would you put it? Our operations are in Texas.

For USA clients? Monterrey would be an obvious choice for an industrial business. Queretaro is big enough, growing nicely, with a prepared workforce and is close to Mexico City without its problems.

Monterrey seems like the place. Functional and closer than Mexico City. We buy in China, Vietnam, Cambodia but the forces of competition or Trump haha may some day necessitate Mexico investment.
