China wasn’t this good. The Chinese learnt how to build high speed railroads and mastered it in the last 20 years. Imagine this speed and efficiency of learning something. Doubtless not, but it is striking that they can just do things, and if that means moving a village, or a few dozen workmen dying, it is no sweat. Cut through the red tape like the Gordian Knot.

They certainly know how to use eminent domain. Chinese work sites are probably more dangerous than American ones but not by much. If I had to name one thing that allows them to build so fast it’d be no developed legal system.
