I'm confused about whether public workers are underpaid A teacher/police officer/etc making $90k a year gets a $67,500 annual pension after 25 years of service That pension is worth ~$2.5 million with today's rate of return. A $100k/year bonus tax-free, or ~$175K pre-tax No?

In 1950 retired workers were eligible to collect Social Security at age 65. The average lifespan for men in 1950 was 66.8 years. The math is similar for public workers. I don't know if they are underpaid, but the system has gotten a lot better for them.

Why the most-educated Fed Employees aren't underpaid as they claim. A thread:
1) Fed jobs are significantly over-graded on the GS scale. A phenomenon the Feds own HR and IG offices have noted back to the 70s. Over-grading increases pay and requires higher education.
