What percent of academic papers are worth reading? What percent of summaries of academic papers are worth reading? I’m very skeptical of the value of this advice in a whole bunch of ways.https://twitter.com/david_perell/status/1195944940116828161 …

I think the advice is for academics, you'd be on the other end of it. It's basically marketing, his and your incentives are not the same.

I don't think it's for academics. Silicon Valley loves to smart-signal and that is most likely what this is for. As for his incentives and mine? I think they're actually pretty similar. We're both trying to build an audience on Twitter and elsewhere though he's better at it.

There are a lot of young guys whose main accomplishment seems to be their twitter following and he's one of them. Michael Mayer, Sahil Lavingia, this guy... People/kids/whatever seeking to learn would be wise to avoid them. They're better at writing than doing.

Sidenote: I never really figured out who's Michael Mayer. He seemed like some Naval adjacent guy. I never followed him and yet my feed was full of his stuff somehow.

On Twitter, he's hard to find and avoid.
