Cheap efficient trucking is the most often cited cause of the decline of cargo rail transit in the United States, but after studying cargo rail, I believe that trucking is only a piece of the puzzle. 1/n

Reading it now! I was interested why margins improved so much since the '90s. A guy in the trade chat suggested this book.
I'm going to guess that the author says "precision railroading" and consolidation but the real answer is just consolidation.

Another one I think is true: They aren't building more rail but demand creeps up with population growth.
