I tend to pay attention to minor inconveniences, fees, & limits. Email storage limit Photo storage limit Monthly text message overage fees Late fees Commissions These minor inconveniences can create some big consumer businesses that initially scale by removing “limit friction”.
The key point is when do the limit frictions sum to exceed software stickiness or the network effect. That's the hard part.

Some thoughts: 1. Transition doesn’t require ripping out incumbent. (D/L chat app to replace native text messaging) 2. The desire to reset & start clean outweighs maintenance of legacy. (New email acct for new job/school acquaintances)

3. New tool drives adoption of services better suited for the tool (iPhone launch) 4. Shifting from permission based usage to permissionless. (Not needing parental approval to increase consumption)
