When I first arrived in China in 2011, America was 12 hours behind. Today, after 8 years of economic growth, America is 12 years behind. My Chinese counterparts very much enjoyed my joke.

But in all seriousness, since I first got here, many things have improved: - it's cleaner - people are more polite - big tech growth (i.e. alipay) - supply chain and quality improvement - way more patriotic That said, people still can't drive for shit.

Public transportation has gotten much better as well. Meanwhile in USA feels like we've mostly stagnated. We spend more time thinking about whether a Halloween costume is racist than building infrastructure.
